Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), created by Dr. Susan Johnson in the early 1980s, is recognised as the gold standard in relationship counselling. put link here

EFT is grounded in the science of adult attachment, which shows that humans have an inherent need to feel connected to important others. When we are securely connected, we thrive. When we feel disconnected, we become distressed and fall into negative patterns as we try to find acceptance, belonging, comfort, or safety. EFT helps us understand these patterns and the deep fears and unmet needs behind them. By recognising and stepping back from these negative cycles, EFT supports us in building stronger emotional bonds and more positive interactions, leading to deeper connections and less distress.

EFT is backed by research, showing that 70-75% of couples who complete EFT move from distress to recovery, and about 90% experience significant improvements in their relationships.

These positive changes are shown across different relationship types, cultural, sexual and gender identities, and continue to last over time.
