family of origin or chosen family

Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) supports families to strengthen emotional bonds and navigate conflict with greater understanding and care. Grounded in attachment theory, EFFT focuses on repairing relational patterns that create distance, helping parents and children feel seen, supported, and emotionally safe with one another.

Through carefully guided conversations, families are supported to access and express underlying emotional needs, and to respond to one another with increased openness and responsiveness. Over time, this work fosters a more secure emotional foundation that supports resilience, growth, and healthier ways of relating.

Engaging in therapy together allows each family member to experience safety through vulnerability, while developing new relational patterns and shared narratives that promote trust, connection, and stability.

At elemental, Renée places emotion at the centre of family communication. She works with each individual within the broader family system, supporting the reduction of distress and the development of clearer, safer, and more authentic expression of attachment needs.
